We are committed to working together with the Yellowknives Dene First Nation and the North Slave Métis Alliance in Yellowknife, NdilǪ and Dettah, to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. In partnership with our local First Nations and Métis partners, YKHEMP provides a baseline of contaminant exposure for the Yellowknife area populations, and assesses possible long-term relationships between arsenic and health effects. YKHEMP publishes annual progress reports, pamphlets, and shares available results through community meetings.
YKHEMP is a study based in Sǫ̀mba k’è, Denendeh (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories), on Chief Drygeese Territory. YKHEMP is a long-term health study to monitor levels of arsenic and other metals of concern in adults and children in Yellowknife Ndilǫ, and Dettah.
